RGS 455 had a busy day 10 Years ago Today!!
I would like to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the running of the “RGS 455 Returns” trip! It was 10 year ago today, August 23 1997 when RGS 455 made a trip for Vance Jct to Rico! Everything looks a lot like Chama to Big Horn though! The 463 was dressed up as the 455. It was a huge project to pull this event off. You can see the before and after pictures below.
The locomotive was hand washed three weeks before the trip to prepare for the lettering. We used the same lettering materials as the C&TS. Todd Hackett created the computer generate graphics for the locomotive. The Caboose had 4’ strips of a “Contact Paper” like material added to cover the existing lettering. Then the Contact Paper was painted red to protect the 0503 lettering beneath. The 0404 was then hand painted with a stencil and chalk.
A day in the life of the RGS was created with switching moves throughout the day. We started out with a 9 car train in the morning and ended with a 17 car train! Many of the pictures have a different set of cars behind the 455. Some of the best pictures I have seen are of the night photo shot.
I work closely with Earl Knoob to make this trip happen!
I thought everyone would enjoy the pictures below. I will post more pictures as the train pasted through the day.
It would be great to see others pictures as well by the riders of the trip and chasers too!
What was the surprise ending of our trip?
Have a great day!
