Hi,
I have a tape titled "War Trains". Part of it has movie footage of the WWI 2' gauge (or is it 60cm) trench trains running and track being laid.
Today on the History Channel I saw a shot of the Allies in WWII advancing after Overlord (D-day June 6, 1944) and they were crossing what looked like a 2' or 60cm track.
As I recall, the Maginot line had 60cm for delivering shells to the fixed emplacements (which the Germans out flankedin 1940).
Was 60cm or 2' gauge used in WWII in other places?
I'm sure there were small uses near large gun emplacements but once the breakout from Normandy, I do not think they could have been used.
Was 60cm or 24" used in non-military applications during WWII that mere extensive or were they just local single plant type industrial lines?
Thanks.
Doug
