This has to be at least the third time this has happened to them- yet they keep trying to run diesels. Last I read (on the South African Railways page) steam was still being used at Wankie Colliery and for switching service in Harare and some other locations.
Unfortunately, according to the late Dusty Durrant's recent book on Zimbabwe, most of the big Class 20 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratts were scrapped during the last "re-dieselization" in the early 90's despite the fact that many had been recently overhauled.
Now, if DLM can just talk them into buying some new steam....
