This talk comes up every now and then. We must remember that Rock and Rail owns 50 percent of the route and has a maintainence commitment. Union Pacfic still dispatches the route and has retained trackage rights.
Tampers and ballast cleaners would need be designed for this customized operation. Rock and Rail and UP would frown on this. Three-rail track is more expensive to maintain.
Also how much additional money would the Ashbeys make from this type of operation as opposed to the operation they have there now? Money in the bank is in the bottom line.
Setting up a narrow-gauge operation in ``virgin'' territory is the best bet for this equipment.
