Here is the letter as the town emailed to us:
May 22, 2007
Dear Loop Communications Committee Members:
We are writing to inform you that the Colorado Historical Society and Railstar Corporation have decided to postpone the opening day of the Georgetown Loop Railroad® from Saturday, May 26, to Friday, June 15.
As you are aware, we have experienced setbacks and delays over the last several months as we have worked to prepare our engines for the upcoming season. Currently, diesel engine No. 21 is operational; however, steam locomotive No. 12 is undergoing additional repairs and is expected to be completed by mid-June. We initially believed running No. 21 would be an appropriate solution to open the season because June ridership is traditionally very light. However, because the diesel has been used primarily as a retrieval locomotive, it simply has not proven that it can sustain the rigors of daily service for three weeks. Therefore, we believe a better customer-oriented solution is to delay the opening by three weeks and reschedule passengers to ride behind steam locomotive No. 12. Sumpter Valley continues to keep us apprised of No. 1203 renovations and we expect this engine to join No. 12 later in the season.
We diligently strive to offer a positive, memorable experience at the Georgetown Loop Railroad®, and we believe that, given the current circumstances, this solution helps us to achieve this goal. Customers who have reservations during this period will be personally contacted.
We will still participate in the Memorial Day weekend festivities by having the railyard and the shops open at both depots, and staff scheduled for visitor orientation. Railstar Assistant General Manager Larry Jensen and other Railstar staff are making personal visits to merchants and are available to answer questions.
We understand this delay may cause some inconvenience and we thank the community for its continued support.
Sincerely,
Georgianna Contiguglia,
President and CEO
Colorado Historical Society
