Has Hard Sledding Monday
Monday the train that was to be, never was, as it failed to reach its destination. The engine got through to Pitkin, but when it came to backing down to Roosevelt where they had left the train, the engine and flanger balked. The snow drifted in behind the engine and caused a lot of grief for the section crew who had to shovel it out. Late in the evening they got back to the train at Roosevelt and returned to Gunnison with the assurance that they would return another day. We would suggest that the next time they bring along a little power, when they will have no trouble in getting through. The snow was not so bad, all that was needed was motive power to push it out of the way.
In the meantime, the ten or more passengers came on to Pitkin via a horse team, arriving about seven that evening.
