On the last run of the San Juan the 488 doubled the line between Alamosa and Chama. The 484 was the power on the 116 from Durango to Chama and helped the 488 as far as Cumbres. The 478 ran the 115 from Chama to Durango.
The Rio Grande needed an engine at Chama to run the San Juan from Chama to Dulce and back the next day as that part of the end was not abandoned until May because of a negative ruling by the New Mexico State Corporation Commission.
BTW Alva Lyons was conductor on the abbreviated San Juan.
