K-28

February 24, 2001 10:38AM
I am curious to know the status of the K-28 locos on the D & S. They are truly neat looking locomotives with one of the most beautiful whistles around. I understood from messages some time ago that one of the K-28s was no longer serviceable and on display. What would it take to place it back in operating condition? Finally, I would like to hear from the experts how the K-28 compares in any number of respects to the K-27, K-36, and K-37 locos: ease of maintenance and operation, pulling power, riding quality, and so on. Any engineers out there who have operated all four types and can provide a hands-on perspective?
Thanks.
