Charlie - My understanding is that few people ride that section. It is flat and boring. Most board in Alamosa. The day I rode it we just drove to Alamosa as they had suspended the Antonito-Alamosa service. There is secure parking by the station. I highly recommend the trip. It is a beautiful trip and extremely rare mileage. The equipment used is basically scrapped out passenger coaches with no amenities. Use the rest room before you go. On the other hand there are no rules and you can just hang out the vestibules, windows or rear door as you please. There is plenty of good food at LaVeta for lunch.
