The Railroad Extra website has lots of old-time railroad stories. One is from a book by a "Confederate Engineer" who, among other things, travelled to Denver for the Brotherhood convention in 1899. He recounts his experience riding to Silver Plume and Georgetown and then up to Leadville. Here is the link to the Denver chapter:
