The train I am thinking about was one that we have not used on DVD yet Earl. It was around 1960 on a fall trip as I recall from memory. You commented that the K28 was allowed with the other engine. Also there is a Mid-train helper on a Chama - Cumbres freight at Lobato as my dads special excursion passed it in I believe 1954. The train departed right after the special arrived, and folks detrained to get the freight leaving. All the other footage I have on the Rio Grande steam in the 1960's show by Perry Becker(films), shows nothing but rear pushers from Chama, including one with the RPO(MOW) for a caboose on one hill turn which I thought was really different!!
Like someone said they probably did every conceivable consist at one time or another on the D&RGW. However there were tendencies, as we have discussed, and rear pushers from Chama were the norm, as were mid-train helpers from Antonito westbound.
I would have liked to have seen some of those multiple engine trains on Marshall Pass, like the stock rush trains, etc. Wow 4 engine trains would have been real impressive.
