Andy Payne talked about the time he went to Windy Point to rescue Carl Jack's engine. They where just getting ready to leave Chama when Lee Otteson's engine came back.
When they got to Windy Point Carl Jack was relaxing, leaning out of the cab window eating an apple. When the coupling was made the jolt was strong enough that the apple went flying.
Andy also said that if the locomotives had been coupled doubleheader style rather than a pusher they might have had better success bucking the snow. Then, when they ran into trouble they could back up, tie the train down and buck the snow with both engines.
