A superheater does not increase pressure. It dries out what steam is there by "baking" it in pipes stuck into oversized boiler tubes. Baking it with the exhaust gas of the fire dries out the remaining moisture making the steam a more perfect gas and capable of move expansion and doing more work.
The trouble is the valve oil needs this moisture to cling to so that the oil can move through the valves and piston. Slide valves have large flat seats that are difficult to lubricate with used with superheated steam.
