It wasn't too bad. The stations were located at the top of a slight grade which helped slow us down. If you came in too fast or if it was raining that was a different story. Then we'd haul her over into reverse and fan the brake valve. Then prayed that a supervisor wasn't near the station when you came in. Didn't want to try to explain why you over ran the platform. As far as smooth stop,the trick was to close the throttle as you approached the station. That let the slack run in gradually on those link and pin(!) coupled coaches.
