Yesterday at the wonderful ceremony and operation of C&S # 9 I got into an interesting conversation with one of the engineers who runs # 9. I was told that a infrared temperature monitor, kind of like a pistol grip photo light meter was used inside the cab of # 9. Cab ceiling measured 150 degrees F. Side of boiler inside cab was over 300 degrees. Is it any wonder that we see these nice people from the CLRR with their fannies handing out of cab windows. Hell, I'd do that too........
