This is certainly true ! We are in the process of having replica castings made for the 0579 caboose. For the 1st couple, we were able to use originals as the pattern, but now we're into stuff that needs a complex pattern made. I'd guess the original car was build for much less than what will be spent on patterns to reproduce a D&RG caboose truck. But at least once we have a pattern made, it can be used infinite times.
