Let's just say (from my own experience) that working for software firms in M$'s back yard can be a rough experience. You toe the line. You don't step over it, and you don't stand behind it either. If you get in the way, you're road kill. You (the public in general) don't hear much about it, since it's all concealed with "non-disclosure" agreements backed by an army of lawyers with the attititude of pit bulls on angel dust.
Funny thing... for years in the Seattle area, when you spoke of the Gates', you weren't speaking of the now well known son, but the parents. Bill had a bit of a head start that most of the folks receiving his advice won't have.
I wonder... just how many burgers he flipped in high school or college?
