This season, No. 9 and No. 12 will both hook up to the same train in order to pull more cars and increase the historic rail line's passenger capacity, said Kathy Denzer, spokeswoman for Railstar. The Colorado Historical Society, which owns the Georgetown Loop, granted Railstar the contract to operate the train in 2004. Last year was Railstar's first season at the wheel.
"If you compare the numbers to 2004, there were fewer riders in 2005," said Denzer.
Denzer said the trains usually run below capacity at the beginning and end of the day. Coupling the engines will give the train more seats during the peak midday hours.
