For everyone that has lamented Eureka not being out in public this year, that is about to change. We are still in the planning stages, but it is expected that Eureka will go to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City this coming July 4th holiday weekend. We expect to have it there for about 4 or 5 days, and under steam.
The petition for the waiver is still pending with the FRA regarding the removal of tubes for the 15 year inspection. However, the State of Nevada did its annutal inspection of the locomotive's boiler and found it to be in as good as shape as ever. Eureka carries a current state boiler certificate as it always has.
We hope that you can make it to Carson City to see Eureka and the other great locomotives at the NSRM. It is probably the only place in the country where a person can see 3 nineteenth century locomotives under steam at the same time:
EUREKA, INYO and the No.8,(all 4-4-0s) not to mention the other equipment that will be visiting and the exhibits. It should be a great time! Keep an eye on the NSRM website for further information as we get closer to the event.
