They were manufactured by General Electric on separate orders.
One of the bodies once sat behind the engine house of the Modesto & Empire Traction east of Modesto, California. Since the M&ET oprated a fleet of 70-ton GE locomotives, I would suppose that the diesel engine and other components were the same.
