Attracting Tourists

March 02, 2006 11:13AM
There has been a lot of discussion recently in regards to the number of (or lack of ) tourists coming to ride the C&TS. Much has been posted about the role of Chama and Antonito in the scheme of things. Has any consideration ever been given to putting in some attractions at Osier for the train riders? I don't mean a Disneyland type deal, but some things that would encourage the typical Mom and Dad and their kids to ride the train. These things could be like;
- a creative playground for the young kids
- a building with some arcade games for the
older kids
- a hiking trail that people could follow that
would introduce them to the plant life
(and maybe the animal life too) of the area
- a biking trail, where an entrepreneur could
rent bikes to the train riders, and they
could get some exercise
- a trail down to the river, where riders could
rent a fishing pole and try their luck
These are just some ideas off the top. Riders could come to Osier from either direction, spend a couple of hours there, then return to their point of origin, or go on to the other end of the line. So, the lunch stop would be 21/2 - 3 hours, where the two trains meet, stay, then go on as now.Thoughts???
