If you are interested in "bendy" steam locomotives the first book to look for is "Articulated Locomotives" by Lionel Weiner. Originally published in 1930 it was reprinted Kalmabch in 1970. As an overview it is good but "not exactly" accurate....
My main interest is Garratts and that is what my website is all about - link: [users.powernet.co.uk]
Mallets: Book "The Mallet Locomotive" by A.E. Durrant published in 1974 is, probably, the best overall view of the worldwide situation. He estimates that over 5000 were built, with about 60% of this total were North American (though whether this was those used there or constructed there is unclear). Of these 3000 only 700 were "simple". I'm not sure about the ratio world wide.
We didn't use them in the UK but a few were built here.
