C&TSR fate still debated by states
By LARRY WINGET
ALAMOSA— The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was one topic of discussion during a recent meeting between the governors of Colorado and New Mexico.
According to Mark Salley, deputy press secretary to Colorado Governor Bill Owens, the two chief executives did discuss the popular tourist attraction. However, following the meeting which was held late last week, the two had “nothing to disclose,” concerning C&TSR’s future.
Carl Turner, one of two New Mexico members of the C&TSR Commission, did have something to say. He disagreed with Rey Medina, the other New Mexico C&TSR Commissioner and disagreed with Colorado State Senator Lewis Entz.
Turner said Medina was wrong in saying that the railroad commission was considering eliminating some of C&TSR’s operations. He also wanted to give the public the “straight dope” about the railroad’s finances.
