A group of eight of us chartered a caboose two years ago; it only cost us about $350 total, and it was a GREAT experience. Turns out that our caboose (the cheaper of the two) was bad ordered; and we got upgraded for free to the more "luxurious" caboose.
One of the guys went back and did it again with his family a month later.
I bought two cab rides; gave one away, took the other. In the cab (Jeff Stebbins & unknown engineer) asked if I saw the "f***** long-haired hippie" that got on the caboose. Yes, replied, and I actually liked him as he worked for me; and despite the hair and the beard, he was a really good guy. To this day, we refer to him as the "effin" hippie.
