Our first family trip was 1956, but I do know he made one in 1954, so this must be it. Also some other wild stuff on that one, like 1136(Standard Gauge) on a freight from Alamosa(west perhaps!), SLVS, and U.P. around Denver, Cheyenne, and Laramie.
He shot the SLVS with engine 106 apparently 2 different trips, or these rolls got split up. Will have to research the can info sheets more closely later.
By the way in viewing these films I saw the following engines in service. 490, 491, 492, 495,
498, 483, 486,487,488. Also 487 and 476, plus a static shot of the back of 464 in Durango.
There was a time in the mid-60's where he decided to quit shooting movies, and I have a feeling there are no movies of our 1966 and 1967 trips. In 1968 my brother shot with his camera for the first time.
Another interesting thing I noted besides the Lobato doubleheader, was a Cumbres turn from Chama leaving the Narrows with 491 on the point, a batch of pipe gons, and lastly were the the oil cars, helper engine, and caboose. I would have thought the heavy oil cars would always be on the front ahead of the empties, or doesn't it matter.
On another train there was oil cars up front behind the lead engine WB out of Antonito. Obviously these would have been empties. I guess
as John West once said, anything was possible at least once.
