Davenport Trench Locomotives from WW1 were sold off to many different companies after the war. This included Kaiser Paving Co. ie:"Dan Patch Railroad" They were used in building roads from Beaumont, CA to Palm Springs.
Locomotive #s used were 10,11 &12 (builders # 5213,14,15).
When they were no longer needed they were sold to Joshua Hendy Iron Works in San Francisco, in 1934. One or two of the three that worked for Kaiser were seen as late as 1946 in an advertisement for General Equipment Co. of San Leandro.
Others from the same class also worked building roads in the southern US.

When the locomotives were built, they were not expected to last more than three weeks! Yet they did. One has been restored in the UK and is running at the Welsh Highland Tramway. Named the "Mountaineer", it is a wonderful representation of a very unique and historic class of American built steam locomotives.
