Salida Record, April 14, 1905: "Many improvements are under course of completion by the Rio Grande officials, and among them is the equipment of the narrow gauge system freight train service with automatic air.
The work is no under way and as a preparatory movement a car from the International Correspondence School, of Scranton, Pa., is in the city instructing the railroad men about the use of automatic air, its uses and abuses.
Another improvement is the electric headlight with which all passenger engines are being equipped.”
