From the "Chaffee County Republican" newspaper, Thursday, August 14, 1915, page 5, column 4, it reads, "It is understood that the Rio Grande is arranging to take up the third rail between Salida and Leadville, and dispense with the narrow gauge service through here."
I believe the thrid rail stayed in place for almost another 10 years, but my questions is, was the D&RG still using narrow gauge up to Leadville in 1915? I know they NG operations were still in use to Marshall Pass and Salida to Alamosa, but were they still using this narrow gauge line to Leadville?
The I guess the final question would be, did they unload NG cars of the Colorado & Southern into D&RG cars, or were these cars just moved over the D&RG to Salida and possibly Alamosa ?
