Jochem,
I have a copy of "Stations West" by Edwin Culp. Actually I met Mr. Culp. He lived in Salem, Oregon as I do. We went to the same hobby shop, Eastwood Hobbies. I found a picture in "Rails, Sagebrush and Pine" of the Prairie City Depot in about 1915 and it is a very light color, either white as Taylor Rush suggested in a note to me or perhaps a light brown or tan color as was suggested by someone else. No matter, it was not a dark red then.
There are chapters about Sumpter, Baker, Auburn, Greenhorn, Bourne, various other mining towns in the Blue Mountains, and The Sumpter Valley Railway, in the book "Oregon's Golden Years" by Miles F. Potter copyright 1976 by The Caxton Printers, Ltd. All these chapters can be related in some way or another to the Sumpter Valley Railway. If you are interested in the SVRy, you should try to get this book. I suppose that it is out of print, but am not sure. I have a fourth printing in 1982.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I very much appreciate all the responses and information that I received from my notes in the
www.ngdiscussion.net.
Talk to you later, Dale
