LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! Making their final appearance on the Georgetown Loop, PRESENTING.........THE ENGINES AND CREW OF THE GEORGETOWN LOOP RAILROAD INC.!!!!
For everyone that feels that it's no big deal that the GLR Inc. is out because the CHS together with Railstar have guaranteed that steam will run on the Loop in 2005, please take a good long look at that photo! What you DON'T see is as important as what you DO!
Certain people on this forum have expressed everything from concern to dismay to total disgust at those of us that have posted our opinions against this outrage. So be it. I will apologize for nothing!
Maybe Railstar will be able to have steam engines running next year. I hope they do and I will be the first to wish them well! That has never been the problem! My outrage is directed solely at the CHS's leadership and the local CHS officials that made this a personal vendetta!
A railroad is more than trains and track. It is a living entity with a heart, mind and soul! It is the culmination of decades of hard work, blood, sweat, tears and triumphs by everyone associated with the railroad. It shows in the dedication that the crews put into their work, by the way the crews treat their equipment, by the way that the employees interact with the public and by the way that they return the loyalty that has been bestowed upon them by the owners and management! When you look at that picture think of all of that as well as what you see because THAT is what is being discarded!!!
What do I see in that picture? I see a great historic steam railroad operation that is the equal to ANY in this land!! I see an operation that is proud of what they have accomplished and also eager to share that experience with us. I see people that I would be proud to call my "friends" who bend over backward to help out if at all possible and I see employees that are as fiercely loyal to their employers as their employers are to the railroad and them! In short, what I see is a first class operation of thorough professionals that are first class in their field and I feel humble and grateful to have been able to expierence the magic of The Georgetown Loop Railroad the way it was meant to be! (That's quite a bit for one picture but they do say that a picture is worth a thousand words!)
