"An update: despite the $25,000 deposit, the deal has not been closed. A representative of the buyer was scheduled to see #12 under steam at Silverwood last Tuesday, but failed to show. A rescheduling was made for next Tuesday, but if he misses this as well, the buyer loses his deposit, the deal falls through and #12 goes back on the block."
Since "next Tuesday" is now last Tuesday, did the buyer or his/her representative show up?
Concerns regarding Kahului #12: From a couple of very experienced steam railroaders, recent word is #12 has a ball-valve throttle plumbed in (the 'cobbling' referenced earlier), and the boiler is not in very good condition. Again, mucho dinero will be required to make this locomotive operational.
(Tractive effort = 15K? That's two, maybe three cars on the Loop; more if they operate only downhill. *S*)
