I know the D&S tried to get the 486 in ‘91 instead of 482, but the folks in Canon City wanted more than the D&S was willing to give at that time. One of the guys in the D&S shops told me that the Canon City folks seemed to think they had something greater than it really was. Essentially he wondered what did the Canon City folks think they would do with the 486 vs. one of the K-37s? I'm not sure if Harper was a better negotiator than Bradshaw, or willing to pay more, or whatever. At any rate the 497/482 deal must’ve been the second option.
