Ed et all;
There are 86 steam locomotives listed in the Philippines on my "Surviving World Steam" CD-ROM. Most of them are on the island of Negros; but some can be found on Cebu, Luzon, and Panay as well.
The Insular Lumber locomotives are still around; with the Mallet being cosmetically restored a few years ago. The H-P locomotives are for sale. Another amazing example is an 0-6-6-0 originally built by Baldwin for the Soviet Union in 1917, and sent to the islands instead after the Soviet Revolution. It is still around in derelict condition, having last served as a stationary boiler at Pampanga Sugar Mill on the island of Luzon.
The builder's number and histories of most of the locomotives on the island are well known, as are the locations. One of my contacts has photographed many of them, and they appear both on the program CD-ROM and in the past few update CD-ROMs. I think it is highly unlikely it is still in existance; though I wouldn't say it was impossible.
Most rail authorities in South America also believe that Lew is gone; but stranger discoveries have occured. But in today's Internet world; it seems fewer and fewer discoveries remain to be made.
