Salida Record, July 15, 1904: “It is now a current rumor that Marshall Pass is soon to be covered by a three-rail road permitting of the passing of both standard and narrow gauge trains. This has been rumored so often that the public generally is becoming skeptical of the idea, but seemingly reliable authority corroborates the story. It is a fact that all new ties being laid on the line between Salida and Mears and from Mears to Alamosa are standard gauge.”
