Y'know, with all the goings on with the CHS and the GLR I never stopped to think about WHY Georgetown's residents should get a single cent of the profits from the GLR!! Maybe I'm just ignorant of the situation but it would seem that the benefit to Georgetown's merchants is in the business that the GLR brings in!!
What has Georgetown done for the GLR? It seems to me that they want the railroad (together with it's loud and smelly trains) as far away as possible! It would have been better for Georgetown if the Loop went all the way into town (think of Silverton) where crowds of PAYING TOURISTS would regularly patronize their establishments!
Oh yes, they do that NOW but they have to drive into Georgetown and that is a conscious decision. Georgetown is only reaping a fraction of what it could! THERE'S your golden egg!!
Even if 40% of the profits were to go to Georgetown, who would benefit from it? The merchants? The "City of Georgetown"? Why? What are they doing for the GLR? Are they contributing anything to the day-to-day operations?
Maybe I'm completely mis-characterizing the situation but having a government agency take money away from someone who is earning it by working for it just to give it to somebody else that "wants it" smacks of SOCIALISM at best and/or skullduggery or worse!
I could go on and on but you get the picture (and no, I didn't forget that the CHS wants another 30% of the profits on top of this! I just chose to remark on the 40% that is "supposedly" going to Georgetown! Others of you are doing a much better job that I at commenting on the CHS's lack of ANY business accumen or common sense!) DANG IT! This is REALLY beginning to tick me off!!!!
