Looks light to me and too magenta. I took a whack at the photo too. I was looking for a neutral gray in the boiler color.
I must say the jpeg translation on the photo is pretty sad. The shadows were blocked up badly already. I've never had this fight with 'artifacts' in Photoshop unless there just wasn't enough information there to process, so it may just be all the info that was left in your slide.
Thanks for sharing your photo memories - I have really enjoyed all of them.
I'm glad you are trying to save whatever is left in the image as it can't be replaced. I found some old Anscochrome shots I took around 1960 and they were pretty much faded away completely.
