Rio Grande Boxcar Question...

While digging through one of our Rio Grande boxcars (3171) today, we noticed another number on the framing. Inside next to the door up towards the roof is what appears to be either a 265 or 266 stenciled. We're interested if this may be an original number, or perhaps reused material from another car. Anyway, any information or ideas would be very appreciated.
