As a professional photographer (advertising & photojournalism) I can tell you that the two major factors in digitial vs. film choice are two fold.
1. Digital can compete with film..IF the digital camera camera you are using is comparable to a top of the line Nikon's or Canon's....at about $8000 just for the camera body, and no lens.
2. Color FILM has an inherint flaw in its ability to record a perticular color group in the visible spectrum. DARK GREEN! Digital has no problems in this area, where film is not accurate in this area of the visible spectrum. (think olive drab or pullman green). Most people don't sense this but an ad agency shooting a brochure on a dark metalic green Pontiac will sure know it.
I opted for the new top of the line Canon EOS-1V high speeds for my trio of PJ assignments...shooting film, which can be scanned into the computer.
Occasionaly a client will want to make a 6' X 9' mural for a huge shot at a trade show. Film can do it, but only an $8000 digital Nikon or Canon can handle it...and film has a great storage life. Digital is still an unknown.
If anyone needs any help, please feel free to back chanel me on email.
