One more bit of trivia - The Cumbres Lily

In today's Denver Post was this "On this Date" headline from 1900:
"Specimens of the Rare Cumbres lily, which was believed to grow only in a small lake at the summit of Cumbres Pass, were given to a botanist in hopes that the plant could be classified and scientifically named."
Doris Osterwald doesn't mention this plant in her book. Are there any botanists or florists out there who could tell us more? Are these still in the lake? Wasn't the larger pond created by the grade for the tail of the wye?
