I went looking for pictures and/or roster information on the Costa Rican 2-8-2's. I found the Central American engine rosters I obtained from a friend back in the mid-70s. Also BLW photos of a 2-8-2 for the FC del Sur consturcted in 1946.
FC del Sur was owned by United Fruit was 42" gague and operated out of Puerto Golfito to Coto plantation and to Laurel. The roster I have shows numbers and construction dates and numbers but little regarding specs. The line had Krupp 2-8-2s from 1939, BLW 2-8-2s from 1940 and 1946 and ex-USA 2-8-2s built in 1945. Most of the engines seem to have gone on to the FC Tela in Honduras (also United Fruit) operating out of Puerto Cortos. The Tela also had ex-USA engiens built in 1945; some of these went on to the N de Hunduras. The ex-USA engines had been built for use in Japan.
The BLW photo of FC del Sur #85 (1946) shows an inside-frame engine about the size of the White Pass engines, but it appears to have smaller drivers and larger (higher) domes. It also has a front-end throttle.
