On the front page of today's (Friday 4/16) Life Section of USA Today, Jayne Clark has an interesting article about how some high profile historical attractions are approaching years of declining attendance.
The point of the article is that "Living History" museums are increasingly seeing the need to engage their visitors rather than just show them elaborate "movie sets." The approaches range from a new Disco exhibit at the Henry Ford museum to historical role playing at Conner Prarie and historical "spontaneous" vignettes of political debates and courtship scenes at Williamsburg.
Whenever the fires are burning, the C&TS is a true living museum; steaming through the awesome challenge of the San Juans is, as it should be, our signature. What other implications might this article have for the future of the Cumbres and Toltec?
