While perusing the internet lately I came across a web site that has ten 1350 hp 1000mm gauge diesel road locomotives for sale. The listing is as follows:
Diesel Locomotives - These 1350Hp, metre gauge, DC/DC, Co-Co diesel electric locomotives are currently operating in Malaysia and are fit for multiple operations up to 4 locos.
Maximum weight of 72 tons
Maximum axel load of 12 tons
Minimum continuous speed is 11.6Kph
Maximum operating speed of 100Kph.
The locomotives were manufactured in India between 1985 to 1990 and have an estimated balance life of 15 years.
They are in Malaysa, and are priced at $575,000 each (overhauled) or $525,000 as is.
My questions are:
how difficult would it be to regauge one or two of these units to 915mm (36")?
Would shipping be too expensive??
Would one or two of these be useful as a helper in climbing cumbres?
Thanks
Fred
