Very little history gets taught to anyone these days.
I did a lecture to a high school class about how the public perceived WW2 at the time in the US and many of them didn't even know which countries fought in the war or even who won!
The history of transportation rates
really low on my list of "things from the past kids should know" if
that is going on.
Them there's the issue of agendas in what it taught in history classes. For generations, if you went to school in the north, you were taught the US Civil War was exclusively fought over slavery and no other issue (though any serious historian knows there was
much more to it than that).
A friend who taught English in Japan scared me when she confirmed that Japanese school kids were being taught that WW2 was Japan peacefully and legally exerting their divine right to control the Pacific, and were then illegally invaded and killed in great numbers by the evil western powers...
