No calculations needed, Olaf -
All I had to do was read your post carefully, so I'll blame my right brain's lack of attention rather than my left brain's lack of math skills for the error (since corrected). In addition to my nearly five months traveling with and on the American Freedom Train as an unpaid volunteer in 1975-76, my only other experience as a "real" railroader (versus Phraud-O-Grapher ®) was two days on the track crew helping to resuscitate the C&TS on Sept. 2 and 6, 1970, and one day as a brakeman, also on the C&TS, fifty years ago today. A rather blustery October 16, 1970 started out reasonably sunny, with a fair amount of fall colors still hanging on in The Narrows as this (previously unpublished?) photo shows
:
Since I've told this story before (see [
ngdiscussion.net]), I won't repeat it here. But later today I'll go back and add to it with a bit more detail and some more IIRC unpublished photos. Right now it's off to my cardiologist for a routine checkup.
Added 16:30 PDT — Following a long delay which included lunch, a geezerly nap, and a 75-minute outing enforced by Bosco & Otis (see [
ngdiscussion.net]), I am heading there now.
