Was the D&RG's first No. 13 "Mountaineer" built with a steel boiler, or with a wrought iron boiler? And if hadn't been scrapped but was kept away for many years, would an overhaul of the engine have made it useful for tourist service on the Cumbres and Toltec or Durango and Silverton Railroads? I'm trying to devise a story where the Double Fairlie is hidden away from scrap for in an abandoned mine along the D&RG around 1888, stays there for 70 years, then is discovered by either the D&RGW or a heritage railway, and I'm trying to keep it as realistic and logical as possible.
