The road that cuts through the middle of the loop in three spots in 2004 was murder on my 1998 Toyota 4-runner, that runs northerly over the top of the mountain to BIG horn, when only a few years before in 1995 I had a 87' Chevy suburban that I took over the top with hardly any problems. I learned how short wheel base vehicles don't do as well on that cobblestone road. Thank heavens I learned of a different road to BIG horn also in 2004. Bob Zorn who operated the hobby shop in Chama drew a great map for me to follow only a few days after I had gone over the top maintenance of way road. He changed my eastern Baja train chasing for good, all to a point that I could keep up with the train without having to go back to the Conjeos valley, to Antonito, and South to Lava tank area. Only he knew all the short cut roads, sure wish I knew where I put that topo map. But now a
guy could photograph the train in motion, very affordably, with less maintenance cost to your vehicle from Big Horn to Lava tank down Gravity Hill over Ferguson Trestle to Antonito without breaking a sweat. Takes all the fun out of chasing if You, ask me.
But it's still nice footage, I'll have to say, Tom. Thanks for sharing.
Also I was under then impression It was known as the Whiplash Loops.
Still a Student,
Dave
