It's a neat specimen of a transitional design--note the small outside counterweight on the main driver but outside cranks only on the first and last driver. During the 1890's all wheel-mounted weights was the norm for outside-frame engines. Soon enough Baldwin was using outside weights on all axles. I've heard of this particular engine before--the only North American 3 foot gauge pacific--but don't recall having seen photographs. These engines you've pictured are true narrow gauge machines, the double sand domes suggestive of engines expected to do their own switching, often enough. I like the striping and centered number on the tender tank collar and the spoked pilot and tender truck wheels. That's a classy machine.
