There are Fairlie's in England that are built from scratch and operated today.
It would be a pretty penny to build such a design today to modern safety standards. The low pulling power would limit the number of cars and hence lower the income capacity of such an engine.
The up front costs would be significant.

This says a reproduction in 1993 cost a half million. I would bet you are somewhere north of a million now due to building everything from scratch and approvals for designs.
