Another military/RR related story: My Marine chopper pilot brother in law Phil Hackman was working on his pilots license in the SE USA. He and his class were required to do X number of flights with take offs and landing plus navigation. He asked the instructor if they had to be spread out or could they do them all in a long weekend? The instructor didn't care. My brother in law and his group flew with stops to Buckley Air Field (Denver). I picked up him and a couple who were interested and took them to Silver Plume, fired up the 19 and gave them a cruise down to the South abutment of the not yet rebuilt high bridge and back. It was after season so nothing else was going on.
When they flew out of Buckley they flew along the C&S through South Park. I'm not sure where else they followed the narrow gauge but knowing Phil he probably followed his favorite, the Chili Line.
