I was working in the engine room of the 1907 steam tug Hercules today and a man leaned over the railing and started asking questions like what horsepower? 1000. What pressure 180 poundper quare inch. Etc.
Turns out he is working with the Durango Railroad Historical Society on the 315. they have just redone their web site, [www.drhs315.org] i took a look and it is a lot more user friendly than before.
And it is sure good to see the movie props gone from the old girl. She is getting a new stack and the test work is going forward in the boiler.
The Hercules for those who do not know her is an ocean going steam tug boat. She has had some plumbing repairs done and the American Bureau of Shipping has just passed her boiler for future operation.
We are writing an operations manual, we are counting past 300 valves so far. Main steam line is 16" across with valves to match. Drain piping is 3/8" in diameter with little bitty valves.
